Heartfelt

I am so touched by your kind words, thoughts and well wishes in your comments and emails in regards to our loss of our Dallas.  The "use of your heart"  is overflowing to our house and I just want to thank each and everyone of you. Your comments fill me and put me back here, put me back to some art to show you how much your love means to me.  You are as sweet as "honey icing" and with the right ingredients, such as friends, things are getting sweet again around home.  I love the very top of this page where it says "you suppose the plaster walks up to the house of it's own accord and sticks itself to the right places?"  We all know better, as artists...we know a lot better!   As friends... you were the "workman" putting the plaster on my walls.  Thank you again.  In your honor I give you my grandma's recipe for "honey icing", cut straight from a recipe scrapbook she kept.  Something sweet for al you sweeties!

A 10 minute tuffet

Or something a bit sweeter!  Still doing mission organization and really had at Pajama Girl's room.  There was several items to move out or relocate.  She has a little nook with a table and chair set she never uses so I set it all up different as a writing desk for her.  What to do with the extra chair?  This old library chair was so cute it had to stay so I moved out an over-sized chair at her vanity. But no one wants to sit and admire themselves on a hard wood chair right? I had to come up with something to satisfy a dainty derriere  This sew easy project can be done in under 10 minutes with the right ingredients, and this is what I used.

1. a vintage dresser scarf with some pretty embroidery on it
2. a pillow form
3. some grosgrain ribbon

I folded the dresser scarf in half and marked lightly on the fold where ribbon placement should be aligned with the spindles on the back of the chair.  I securely sewed them on to the right side of the scarf.  Next, with the scarf folded in half and with the right side out, I sewed around 2/3rd's of it at the point where the lace meets the fabric. Then I stuffed the pillow form in and sewed the remaining edge shut. 

Here it is all tied on.  A tip once you cut the ribbon is to quickly paint a little clear nail polish on the raw edge to prevent fraying. It will be poofy to start but what Miss Muffet does not enjoy a bit of poof in her life?

 

ps. An important note about peeling paint and vintage finds in a child's room.  There are  kits at the hardware store to test for lead based paints.  These are milk paint by the way.  To prevent further peeling I do clean well, sand rough areas lightly and paint a non-yellowing protective varnish (matte finish) on all our "shabby" finds.

Here is the other upcycled shirt I made from the hubster's old t-shirts.  I am off for a fun and exciting weekend with friends.  I will be sure to show you the handmade present I will be delivering when I can.

Sweater weather!

Woo Hoo, snow day today.  I can not even tell you how elated I was to have my little pajama girl home again. Two weeks of no school spoiled us a bit.  I was still able to get some major organization done, some weeding out.  In the midst of my mess making cleaning I discovered a Crispina inspired recycled sweater throw I made one weekend last April...I think April.  In any case I was searching old "Country Anything" magazines for paint ideas for the living room when I stumbled upon a great article about Crispina Ffrench.  My friend has a table runner from her similar to the throw I wanted to make.  So with no clue what I was doing I started cutting all the prewashed/shrunk old sweaters I had waiting for a "someday" project and started sewing away. This felt as good making as it does lying under.  All I need to do is a binding of some sort.

ok...I intend on doing the binding if I can get it back.

Now some super good news.  I was getting the links to Crispina and discovered she has a blog.  Not only does she has a blog she also teaches classes...driving distance from me!!!!! Not only does she have a blog, offer classes driving distance from me...she is also offering a sale on admission if a second person goes.  I would go in a heartbeat if I did not already have a pretty important prior commitment that weekend.  I would totally go and beg her to do a binding on this throw and tell her to quit being so inspiring so I can actually get my living room painted.  (did you notice in the photos pieces of wallpaper peeled off?...yeah...it has been like that for a while now!)
