fun with kiki bird

these are just some fun little 4x4 collage/paintings i created as i sit here waiting for spring to come :)

a 5k, a cause, and a chance to win a prize :)

i know you haven't seen a lot of me lately...i am always on the run...or running.  some days it seems i am running in place but not this time.  i have decided to enter my first 5k...countdown is on and i am ready!

well...maybe not quite...here is where i beg and bribe

you see there is the genetic condition called MPS (Mucopolysaccharidoses) and the whole race is dedicated to raise money for cures, research and help to families affected by it.  Currently there is no cure...and not nearly enough awareness.  if i chose to,  i  could jerk those tears right out of your eyes this very minute...but i'm not going to.   We are going to think positive because i need those vibes and so do the families affected by MPS.   I will also disclose that i know a family affected by it, which is how i learned about how rare it is and how little funding goes to it

the cool coincidence in all this is that a little birdy told me i was ready to run my first 5k.  i surfed to find a nearby one...on a day i had off...that did not start too early....and WHAMO...just like that i found one and was all sorts of excited...my first one...woo hoo...then i saw the cause and tears started rolling out of my eyes...how perfect...how utterly perfect that the universe picked this race for me....SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...i have to do more!

i am raising as much money as i can by begging friends/family/coworkers for donations...still not enough

Kiki dances on Yupo paper

Here is my completed page for Lynette's book in the Girlfriends artbook exchange .  She created her first page on Yupo paper and I was thrilled because I had just bought some to try out.  This gave me the perfect opportunity.  I had never worked with it before and at first was not sure I liked it...until I saw they way things developed as the paint dried.   I used watercolors, Twinkling H2O's and some Inktense pencils.

 

Kiki's body was done with some pigment powder mixed with a gloss sealer.

This and my first page should go in the mail today or tomorrow.

2 more books and new carved stamps

While I was making my books my original intention was to do some with my own original hand carved stamp images.  Kiki bird needed a place to perch, after all trees that we are saving are Kiki's home.  I carved a branch and then a separate tiny trio of leaves to add where I may like. I would also like to mention the covers are made from this great matte white cardboard that comes in each bundle of the prescription label packs we use at work.

 

The paper inside the green Kiki book is recycled brown craft paper.

 

The blue Kiki has post consumer white multipurpose paper

 

I hope to get them to my Etsy shop by the end of the day. I will be in the cage for 12 hours today though.

*a note about the cage if you have not been with me all this time~ the cage is the pharmacy I am a pharmacist at and once in there I can not leave for 12 hours and being away from my art is like stuffing me in a cage...the small area and gate have a lot to do with it too!

* More about the recycled cardboard cover material~  My technician has been saving a them for years for a local art teacher.  I have grabbed them from time to time but they never came in white before.  They make for great projects.  I will get the word out to every store in the chain if I have to for saving them.  We fill 200-over 300 prescriptions a day and add new packs at least twice a day.  There are 2 of these pieces in each pack and they are larger than a business sized paper.  I imagine there is a large amount that is being thrown out in the other stores as we are a "smaller volume" pharmacy.  I am on a mission now to save them all!

shhhhhh, Ki-ki bird is dreaming of Spring

Oh how I wish I could find a cozy clothespin sack and take a nap in the fresh Spring air.  Actually, a hammock would be more comfy.  Looks like Ki-ki has the right idea though.

 

 

and of course there is someone swinging from the vines around the corner!

 

This was also inspired by Leah's "Dream" month at Creative Every Day.

This is a 6x12" gallery wrapped thick canvas and will go to Etsy as soon as I get everything organized for a grand Etsy event.

Twitter wallpaper with tweety Ki-ki

 

I have been playing around with some fun images, then making a digital collage then ended up using it as my twitter wallpaper.  Combining skills and learning new ones.  Some days I force myself to sit at the computer and learn how to do something instead of looking at pretty pictures. 

To my fellow artists, you are posting some pretty pictures and I am loving them up even though you may think I forgot about you.  I look at several posts and pictures a few different times a day.  It is so wonderful to see so much talent.  I am so happy to have entered this world of blogging and just want to say:

h is for hop

Fancy pants Ki-ki has put on her ears and is hopping into Spring.

 

I love this one, I cracked myself up when I doodled the ears on her.  The photos do not do the pale cricket green canvas justice. I try to get it true on the photo editing software but it is not working out for me.  It is a wonderful color and will put spring in any-one's hop!

  

if you doodle some tulips would they be "doolips" or "toodles"?  Whatever you choose to call them, you need to peek around the corner to see who is handing them you.

 

This bird can dance!

 

Spring has sprung and so has Ki-ki as soon as she realized it was time for airing out the tutus.  Incidentally, this is a special tutu made out of vintage wall paper.  Any guesses on what is going on with the posies for our prima?  Take a look.

 

This sweet canvas is a petite 6x6inch in a pale ballet slipper peachy-pink!
