Away from the hive today

  Once a month something horrible happens to me.  (think we have all thought that once or twice...not what you think)  I have to work in "the cage" (the pharmacy, I won't make you go to my glossary to see this time)  Friday-Sunday, 33 hours in 3 days.  I have to leave my colorful hive, don my rose color glasses and try as I might to take some creativity with me to add a bit of color to all the black, white and gray areas in the health care profession.  A big color I am adding this weekend and usually every weekend...starting around Thursday is RED...as in stop sign red.  Stop...as in putting a stop to all those sneaky, lying, stupid idiot, drug seeking scums of the earth.  Yesterday for instance...5 phone calls in a row to see when they could get their Lortab filled again because of the ever so popular "I am going out of town" excuse.  yah, the first thing I do in severe pain is travel.  The good news on all this is how young I must really look because these scumbags think I was born yesterday!  Sorry if this is a bit rough of a post, just everyday I put on my rose color glasses and by the end of the pharmacy day  they are usually all scratched up...but more good news. I have a infinite supply of new ones to put on each morning, and  today is a "short" day.  Only 9 hours instead of 12, less time to get scratched up and I get out while there is still daylight left to enjoy them.

Away from that paragraph and on to the book pages. More mini book pages and fun colors.  My inspiration for these were from magazine pages about an art camp.  Just ran back to my stash to see if I could salvage which one.  I tend  to rip as I read anything inspiring.  The hive and wings above were cut from painted barn doors from Marion Abrams Art Camp in western Massachusetts and featured in July/August 2006 Family Fun Magazine.  The only link I could find to her was this one at the Family Fun site, where I did not see the barn doors I cut up.  A great site and magazine if you have kiddos!

Bee Younique

I am loving color play with these altered books.  The colors in this one were inspired by the great red wall covering I picked up recently at an antique shop.  Got a whole roll of the yummy Laura Ashley stuff. 

How about some art?

It has been a few days since I have posted any art.  I am currently having a blast with altering books.  Here is another one from my little mini book I did the other day and will post several over the next few days.  I am saving them to have some art to post over the weekend since I will be in the "cage" for the duration...ugh.  Once a month I have to do the whole weekend...33 hours in 3 days of lock up!

This was a fun one, the background is tissue paper from a fun store I shopped at in Westport, CT.  (At those prices, it better be nice tissue paper!).  Peacocks are such a cool bird, makes me think of Victorian days when they were the exotic pet to have...still pretty exotic and would love to have some.  I know someone who inherited a few and I thought that was fantastic.  (However from an owners perspective, they are big birds that have big poop!) 

Something about this piece and shopping in Westport is making me want to shop at Anthropologie.  Ut oh, I can not seem to get on the Anthro site for a link...fingers crossed it is nothing major.  Might be just some divine intervention to save me from some impulsive shopping, hee hee.

Goofing off

Still playing in the old books.  On Friday I started yet another addiction, oh summer goofing off is so fun.  I am playing in the land of altered books and no sooner did I finished my "Poof" page for IF (previous post), I was at my favorite little secret finds antique shop.  Had to, it is only a few blocks from where I needed to pick up Lauren from day camp.  So grabbed a few more books, ok more than a few.  I tried to get ones that I could alter but kept finding ones with great content for more mixed media.  I did snag this little book, about 4x6", which is going to be fun. 

Luck was not with us yesterday with the weather, another potential boat day washed away.  I really did not mind thanks to my new obsession.  I am also working on another page in a 3rd altered book, more on that one soon.  I find it fun to have a few going now that I have started because they do need some quiet time while drying, etc.  Next step will have to be a more official journal on nice paper, maybe even attempt binding it myself.  Right now altering the old will be my thing for those rare minutes I can goof off.

Fingers crossed for a nice day today, so we can goof off as a family and get out on the boat.  At least the rain has washed the dust off of it!
