The Blue Bee Story
I grew up with the love of drawing, painting and creating. In high school I had a portfolio ready for any art college. Like any high school student, I was unsure of what career path to take. My sister was attending nursing school and one day came home to tell me how much the pharmacists make. Well with that information and a strong science and math ability I chose a path in pharmacy since the phrase “starving artist” did not appeal to my selfish teenage needs.
Years later in 1998 as a newlywed in our new home I was decorating an enclosed porch. I wanted pillows with a hint of blue so I cut up some sheets, found a huge stamp of a bee and some blue paint. Blue Bee Designs was born! If anything it was just fun to say. Friends have requested some custom items, and since I am a HUGE fan of pretty and detailed packaging I printed up some little logos to make it look “official”. It did not become official until recently in 2006. Having a 3 year old daughter with beautiful curls that hang in her eyes I started creating “Clips for Cuties”. I made them for everyone, mostly hand painted. They were becoming such a hit it inspired me to make a bunch for a “Relay for Life” fundraiser and was amazed by the money I raised on them. With that inspiration and a loving husband who pushed me for years to make it official, I registered my business name.
My Philosophy
(Everyone has them, right?)
I “Bee”-lieve in the following:
Keeping alive the old fashioned, everything from calling cards to snail mail and
Charm bracelets to taking Sundays off.
That TV’s are not for the bedroom, especially in our children’s.
Spelling is inversely proportional to intelligence.
Forgiveness is easier to get than permission.
A gift should be beautifully wrapped.
We should pay attention to coincidences.
Friendship is a treasure.
We all have many talents.
Audrey Hepburn’s theory on having two hands, one for helping ourselves and
one for helping others.
When you find your soul mate there is no difference of where one begins
and the other one ends.
Finally, I “bee”-lieve in Picasso’s words:
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”
